Interior design for your home during Chinese New Year

1

With Lunar New Year upon us soon, what better time is there to do some touch-ups and renovation for your house?

Here are some tips you need to know before you embark on your interior design and home renovation works.

Use light, soft colors to make a room feel larger

If you have a room that you feel is small, use this tip to make it seem like it is larger than it is. Just like how women wear dark colored clothes to make them look more petite in size, the same concept can be applied to design of living spaces.

Decorative mirrors always add light to your living space

Mirrors can also be used to make a small space feel larger. In large rooms or those with a limited amount of natural light, mirrors placed strategically across from windows will add instant light.

Decorative mirrors can also be used in lieu of art to fill empty wall space. Large or small, mirrors add light and dimension to your living space.

Hang artwork at a suitable height

Most people hang artwork too high, thinking that it will attract people’s eyes to it given its more prominent location above people’s heads.

This is a misconception. The ideal height to place any artwork or decorative wall pieces it about 7 to 20 cm above furniture. If the artwork is larger, hang it lower. If it is smaller, push it up higher.

The natural tendency for people’s eyes are to focus on the void, blank area between the furniture and art piece if there is too much white space in between.

Include some things just for show

Men usually buy things they actually intend to use. This is due to their functional, practical nature and is usually a good habit. However, when it comes to furnishing your home, it may be good to buy stuff that you don’t usually use.

Incorporate small, sculptural items like wooden tribal figurines, a globe, map of the world, maybe even some souvenir you bought back from the Amazon rainforest.
